The Architect's Vision
The African Rainbow Resort is the fullfilment of a dream which my wife and I shared with our family and which we now share with many others. While living in Canada, we dreamed of returning to Ghana to build on the beach at Busua. The actualization of this dream involved all members of our family.
In 1998, our elder daughter, Afua Sewaa, assisted her mother in the acquisition of the plot of land on which the hotel was eventually constructed. The building was designed by our son, Akwasi, while he studied for his architectural degree at the University of Waterloo. Our younger daughter, Afua Tiah, was with us through the first half of the construction. She drew the butterfly pattern for the moulded blocks used on the balcony of each of the rooms. The family involvement extended to include the ongoing encouragement from the family in Canada, as well as the skilled labour of family members here in Ghana.
Much of our family’s previous life was spent on the Canadian prairies in one of the rural communities which are famous for their friendliness and hospitality. We opened and operated a hardware store which prided itself in providing “Great service, Friendly advice”. When we opened for business in the hotel in December, 2002, it was our aim to combine our previous experience with the friendliness and hospitality of the Ghanaian people in order to provide our guests with the most memorable time possible. The hotel is modest in size, and that enables our family to provide a personalized touch.
